- The league will provide information on www.centraltorontovolleyball.com. From time to time, we will communicate information to team captains through WhatsApp and/or email and we ask that captains pass along information to team members.
- Teams. Games are played with 4 players on the court. Teams must have a minimum of 3 players on the court at all times, 1 female and 1 male. If a team does not meet the minimum requirements prior to the start of play, they will default the game by a score of 25-0. Teams may play the game for fun, although the default will stand. Defaults must be reported by team captains to the league.
- Permits. Our permits allow us access to gymnasiums Tuesdays from 6:45pm to 9:45pm. Official play is to begin at 7:00 and end at 9:30 sharp. This allows for 15 minutes at the beginning of the evening to set up the equipment and 15 minutes at the end of the evening to take down the equipment. Please leave the school by 9:45.
- Format. A LADDER SYSTEM will be used for the ranking of teams and week to week scheduling.. Winners move up a gym, Losers move down a gym, and Middle placed teams stay put. At the top school, the top two teams stay put. At the bottom school, the bottom two teams stay put. Middle placed teams are asked to take the league equipment, as they will return to the same school the next week. (At the end of the season, the equipment should be returned to the league. Please bring to the year end party.)
- Scoring. Time permitting, each team will play 6 games to 25 points using rally point scoring (a point is scored on every serve). A team must win by 2 points and all games are capped at 27. For incomplete, “in progress” games – the leading team is to be awarded the win. Games that have not been started should be recorded as a tie for both teams.
- Tie Breaker. If teams are tied at the end of the night, the tie breaker will be Head-to-Head wins. If teams are still tied, Total Points will be used to decide which team ranks higher.
- Reporting Scores. All team captains are to report results through the WhatsApp group or by email to contact@centraltorontovolleyball.com by end of day Thursday (rank teams first, second, and third). Teams that do not report scores by this deadline may be ranked third and may move down.
- Referees. Teams that are not playing are asked to supply as referees, lines persons and score keepers. The league will provide whistles for teams to use. As well, players are asked to call their own violations. If there is any dispute, the point should be re-served.
- Serving. There are unlimited serves per player. A player may not block the serve. Let” serves are permitted. If the ball hits the top of the net on a serve and goes over, the ball is still in play
- Attacking. Any player can attack a ball from the front or back court.
- If a player touches the ball on a block, it is not counted as the first touch. The blocker may be the first to play the ball after the block. These two contacts are counted as one touch.
- Players are permitted to play the ball off any part of the body, including feet.
- Revised in 2012/13: Players may not touch the tape at the top the net if they are involved in play at the net. Other incidental contact that does not disrupt play is allowed.
- Penetration under the net is not permitted. If a players foot completely crosses to the other side of the court, the whistle should be blown. A point will be awarded to the other team.
- Open-hand tips are not allowed, although closed-hand tips are permitted.
- Games may be cancelled due to school closures. These games will not be rescheduled, but all attempts will be made to accommodate those teams at other gyms by playing a four-team rotation instead of a three-team one.
- All players must be 19 years of age or older. All players must sign a waiver form prior to play.
- Our permits with the Toronto District School Board allow us to play volleyball only. No other sports are permitted. As well, the permit specifically prohibits the following:
a. Use of school gym equipment besides volleyball poles.
b. The consumption of food or beverages. Water is okay.
c. The wearing of street shoes (note: court shoes should not mark the floors).
d. Carrying on of any activities which may cause damage to the building or the equipment.
- If any team defaults all games for three evenings, that team will be subject to disqualification from the league.
- For a player on a given team to qualify for the playoffs, the player must have played for that team a minimum of five (5) nights during the regular season.
